What to expect

  • Your appointment will begin with a short consultation, to give me the best possible picture of your health, wellbeing, and current lifestyle. We will talk about what you hope to get out of the treatment, and how it can support you. We will agree together where to focus on, or anywhere you wish to avoid.

I will check in throughout the treatment to ensure you are comfortable, and you can let me know at any time if something isn’t quite right. It may take you a bit of time to feel like you are relaxing, as you are getting used to a new environment and experience. Concentrating on your breath, or the music can help to ground you in the present moment.

Afterwards, I may give you a stretch, or any other appropriate aftercare, to ensure you continue feeling your best. We will discuss future treatments, and rebook, if you wish!

  • As often as you would like, and works for you!

I may suggest a series of more regular (1-2/month) treatments to begin with, in order to see results, but its entirely up to you and what you are able to commit to.

There are many benefits to regular massage, and monthly appointments not only help to reduce muscular pain and improve wellbeing, but are preventative too. It’s so much easier to keep your body in a healthy and happy state, than undo problems once they have had time to develop!

  • Wear whatever makes you feel comfortable! I’ll give you plenty of time and privacy to undress, and get on and off the table. Loose, comfortable clothes are best, to keep feeling calm and relaxed even once you’re up after.

If you’re planning on keeping some of your clothes on (like if you have booked a facial treatment), just anything that you’ll be comfy to lie still in for an hour is best. I ask everyone to keep underwear on throughout their treatment.

I advise to not wear any jewellery (especially necklaces) to the appointment as I’ll ask you to take them off.

I’ll provide everything needed for the appointment. It’s great to drink some extra water following or treatment, and I will always offer this, but you’re welcome to bring your bottle, too. If you haven’t paid ahead of time, bring your cash or card!

If you have booked a mobile treatment, I ask you to prepare 2 large towels, and a suitable space for my table. I’ll bring everything else!

  • Your treatment is your time, away from responsibilities and anything that’s going on in your life. Generally, I encourage you not to talk, as it allows you to truly rest and unwind. However, I know that sometimes our minds struggle to slow down, and I am more than happy to have a chat for some or all of your treatment!

We all relax slightly differently, and there’s no ‘right’ way to do so. If you find your mind starts to race, know its completely normal. Sometimes when we give ourselves that space without any distractions, it gives our brain the opportunity to process and offload some thoughts.

You may find it helpful to focus on the sensation of your breath, or the sound of the music, or a nice memory, something that will help ground you in the present moment.

I’ll check in that you are comfortable and the pressure is good throughout your treatment, but never hesitate to let me know if something isn’t quite right, or you need to have a quick wriggle! Sometimes lying down, especially on your front can get your sinuses going, there will always be a tissue to hand if you need it.

  • If you have any concerns, please reach out prior to booking your appointment. It may be that massage is fine, but I need permission from your doctor, or that I am best pointing you in the direction of a more specialist therapist, who has specific training.

  • There is SO much to say and I’ll give you tailored aftercare at your appointment, as needed. Here are some general tips to ensure you feel great before, during, and after your appointment!

Avoid having a big meal for a couple hours before, and go to the toilet before hand.

Allow yourself plenty of time to get there, so you’re not arriving feeling flustered (however, I don’t have any waiting area so you may not be able to come in more than 5 minutes before your scheduled appointment)!

Drink lots of water before, and after your treatment. Massage stimulates your blood flow and supports lymphatic drainage. Having that extra glass of water helps to replenish your body, and leave you feeling great for longer.

Throughout the treatment, don’t be afraid to speak! I’m doing my best to listen to your body, but sometimes words help too! Let me know if you’re too hot, too cold, if there’s a specific spot of tension on your back I haven’t got to and you think needs some attention, if you need to scratch your chin. Its all encouraged!

If possible, try and avoid having to rush off to something right after your massage. Allow yourself time to float around in that post-massage glow for a little bit longer, keeping your mind and body calm.

Try to avoid drinking alcohol for the rest of the day. It may affect you a little differently to normal (you might be a bit more likely to get a headache!)
